We’ll walk you through the entire process of getting your movie listed on essential databases, generating promotional material like DVD box covers, and even creating scannable QR codes—all for free. Plus, we’re offering a free 8K DVD box template that you can customize to give your release that professional touch.
Steps to Add a Movie on The Movie Database (TMDb):
- Create an Account:
- If you don’t have an account on The Movie Database (TMDb), sign up at //www.themoviedb.org/signup.
- Login:
- After signing up, log in to your TMDb account.
- Add a Movie:
- Navigate to the “Add a Movie” section via this link: //www.themoviedb.org/movie/new.
- Enter the movie title, release date, and additional basic information like language, country, and status (Released, Post-production, etc.).
- Fill Out the Movie Details:
- Overview: Provide a short description of the movie.
- Runtime: Enter the duration of the movie.
- Genres: Select appropriate genres for your film (e.g., Drama, Comedy).
- Keywords: Add relevant keywords that describe your movie (this helps with searchability).
- Budget and Revenue: Add the estimated budget and revenue if applicable.
- Upload Poster and Artwork:
- You will be prompted to add a poster and backdrop image in the Artwork section.
- Poster: Minimum resolution of 500×750 pixels.
- Backdrop: Minimum resolution of 1280×720 pixels.
- Submit the Movie:
- Once all the information is filled out, submit the movie for review. The movie will propagate across TMDb in approximately 72 hours.
Steps to Add Artwork on TMDb:
- Upload Artwork:
- After your movie has been added, go to the movie’s page and click the Images tab.
- Click Add Image to upload the artwork.
- You can upload multiple types of images:
- Poster: Ideal size is 1000×1500 pixels.
- Backdrop: Minimum resolution is 1920×1080 pixels.
- Additional Photos: Behind-the-scenes or promotional stills can also be added.
- Select Image Type:
- Once you upload an image, you will need to categorize it (Poster, Backdrop, Still).
- Save and Submit:
- Save the changes, and your artwork will be publicly visible within 72 hours after approval.
Steps to Add Actors and Complete Their Profile:
- Add Actors:
- On the movie’s TMDb page, navigate to the Cast & Crew section.
- Click Add Cast Member to add actors.
- Search for the actor’s name or create a new profile if the actor is not in the TMDb database.
- Complete Actor Profile:
- To complete the actor’s profile, click on their name.
- Add detailed information such as:
- Biography: Provide a short bio about the actor.
- Place of Birth: Enter the actor’s birthplace.
- Known For: Mention the actor’s prominent roles.
- Profile Picture: Upload a high-quality profile image of the actor.
- Edit Existing Profiles:
- If the actor already exists in the TMDb database, but their profile is incomplete, you can request to edit and update the missing information by clicking the Edit button on their profile page.
- Add Credits:
- Link the actor to your movie by selecting the role they played.
- Submit for Approval:
- After adding the actors and their details, the changes will take around 72 hours to propagate.
Generate a QR Code for Your Film
One of the easiest ways to link people to your movie’s page is through a QR code. We recommend linking the code to your movie’s page on SnipeSearch Movies.
- Find Your Movie on SnipeSearch:
- After your movie propagates through TMDb, it will appear on //movies.snipesearch.co.uk/.
- Once it’s live, search for your movie and copy its URL from the browser.
- Create a QR Code:
- Go to //me-qr.com/qr-code-generator.
- Paste your movie’s SnipeSearch URL into the field.
- Customize the design of the QR code to match your DVD artwork (choose colors, styles, etc.).
- Download the QR code image after customization.
- Add the QR Code to Your DVD Box:
- Open the 8K DVD box template we provide (PSD format).
- Scroll to the bottom where the “QR Code” section is. Replace the placeholder QR code with your custom one by dragging it into the file and resizing it as needed.
Create the DVD Box Back Art
You’ll need to create a compelling back cover for your DVD box, which includes scenes from your film and basic information about it.
- Capture Screenshots:
- Download and install the Free Video to JPG Converter from //www.dvdvideosoft.com/products/dvd/Free-Video-to-JPG-Converter.htm.
- Use this software to extract 100 random screenshots from your movie.
- Combine Screenshots into a Multi-Frame:
- Head over to //funny.pho.to/multi-photo-frames/#google_vignette.
- Select 14 of the best screenshots from your film and place them into one of the available multi-photo frames.
- Download the final image once it’s created.
- Add the Back Art to the DVD Template:
- Open the 8K DVD box template and locate the layer titled “Background” or “Back Art.”
- Drag the image you created into this section and resize it to fit. Delete the placeholder background layer.
Complete the Info Box and Finalize Your Design
- Open the Info Box Section:
- In the DVD box template, find the section labeled “INFO BOX BACK.”
- Add Film Information:
- Include essential details like the movie’s release date, director, cast, production year, and runtime.
- Customize the font and style to match the overall design of the box.
- Save and Export:
- After adding all the necessary information and artwork, save the PSD file and export the final design in the format you need (JPG, PNG, etc.) for printing.
